In Tankery, the Mark V uses a "Tank Hunter" configuration, a fictional configuration made up by Electronic Arts (EA) for the game Battlefield 1. The "Female" configuration utilized two more Hotchkiss machine guns in place of the two 6-pdr.Įventually, Mark V production was discontinued and phased, with Britain favoring lighter, faster, and more modern tank designs. The "Male" configuration featured two Ordnance QF 6-pounder (57 mm) Hotchkiss cannons in the side sponsons, and four 7.7 mm Hotchkiss 1909 machine guns. Four hundred Mark V tanks were built in total, 200 in the "Male" configuration and an equal number in the "Female" configuration. Production of the Mark V started in late 1917, it featured a new Wilson epicyclic steering system and transmission, alongside a new Ricardo 150 BHP petrol engine which improved the top speed by ~2 km/h for a maximum of 8 km/h. The improved Mark IV was then given the designation of Mark V.
The "Mark V" itself started out as an entirely different design to the main Mark I-IV series, however to prevent production issues the design was abandoned in favor of an improved Mark IV, featuring a new engine and suspension system that became available in 1917.
The British Mark V tank was an upgraded version of the Mark IV heavy tank, which itself was an upgrade from the earlier Mark I and II tanks, some of the first tanks ever fielded in war.
